A pair of Great Spotted Woodpeckers (Dendrocopos major) have reared a pair of young in our woodland - no wonder I have to keep topping up the feeders.

Out and about

Out and about on the North York Moors this weekend we spotted a lovely barn owl.

We are located in the Yorkshire Wildlife Triangle and often spot wildlife. This week we have seen deer and a tawny owl at dusk and a fox very early in the morning. We have vole holes and mole hills too!

"Froggy would a wooing go..." At the weekend there were no frogs in the pond but they have now started gathering.

Each year we ask guests to donate £1 to the RSPB for every load they tumble dry. Basin Howe Farm is a great place for bird watching and this seems the right charity to support. Our little collection boxes have raised £55.00 this year. Thank you everybody.

Proud to say that the Quality in Tourism Inspector confirmed our 4 Star Gold rating for the 2016 season. He said "Great care and attention to detail goes into the dressing of the rooms in order to provide a most welcoming and homely feel. Commendable." and "Quality well managed self catering accommodations set in an idyllic and peaceful location."
