Basin Howe Farm is ideally situated off the A170 above Sawdon between the coast and the Moors - perfect for a self catering holiday whether you like sightseeing, walking, cycling, bird watching or even stargazing. From the end of our lane you can access miles of local tracks and footpaths including our own local Sawdon Dale and the renowned Troutsdale.

The North Yorks Moors National Park with all of its walks and attractions is right on our doorstep. We are only a few minutes from the new Moors to Coast cycle route, take a look at www.northyorkmoors.org.uk

The North Yorks Moors Railway leaves from Pickering station, (www.nymr.co.uk) and is popular with children and adults alike.

The nearest restaurant and country pub is The Anvil Inn in Sawdon which is now under new management however, it is a small dining room so booking is still essential. We also like to eat at The Grapes in Ebberston and the Brandysnap Bistro at nearby Thornton-le-Dale.

This area of Yorkshire offers foodies great farm shops, local butchers and cafes to enjoy delicious cakes and lunches plus traditional country pubs.

The popular seaside resort of Scarborough is only 12 miles away. Set on the edge of stunning cliffs with its castle and wide beaches, Sea World aquarium, restaurants and shops it offers something for everyone. Visit Scarborough360 to see for yourselves.

You can easily access the breathtaking North Yorkshire Heritage Coastline or drive further up the coast to the resorts of Robin Hood’s Bay, (our favourite,) and the popular Whitby with its cliff top abbey ruins, scenic harbour, fishing and boat trips and world famous fish and chips. Just down the coast is the charming resort of Filey with wide sandy beaches, rock pools on Filey Brigg and again with access to the heritage coastline.

There are local fishing lakes and golf courses at Ganton, Filey and Kirbymoorside.

Other major tourist attractions in the area include Castle Howard, Flamingo Land and of course the historic city of York itself with its Minster and charming old streets known as the Mumbles.

Loads to see and do whatever you like to do and whatever the weather.
